Product Comparison
What products does ViewGuard® offer?
ViewGuard® offers a full range of optical products, ergonomic accessories, computer cleaning products and computer security products. Please visit our Why ViewGuard®? page here for further details.
How do I know what ViewGuard® product meets my needs?
We offer a full range of products. Please reference the below table to see how our products differ and what features they provide.
I work in a high-traffic area or public location and I would like to prevent onlookers from viewing my display; what product do you recommend?
We would recommend the ViewGuard® Anti-Glare Privacy Filter. ViewGuard® Anti-Glare Privacy Filters are made of an innovative microlouver technology that creates a narrow viewing angle so that only the person directly in-front of the screen is able to view the information displayed. ViewGuard® Anti-Glare Privacy Filters also reduce glare and are scratch resistant in order to protect your fragile screen.
I am interested in reducing glare and reflections off my glossy display; what would you recommend?
If you also require privacy, we would recommend the ViewGuard® Anti-Glare Privacy Filter. If you do not require privacy, we would recommend the ViewGuard® Anti-Glare Matte Screen Protector since the lack of privacy protection causes it is more cost effective.
I have a screen that already has an anti-glare coating; will a ViewGuard® product with an anti-glare coating help reduce the glare further?
A reduction in glare or reflections will be most visible when using our product with glossy displays. Our anti-glare technology likely will help further reduce glare or reflections off a pre-coated screen but the improvement may not be visible to the naked eye.
I hate looking at a reflection of myself when using my computer; what ViewGuard® product do you recommend?
High-gloss displays have become the standard and different manufacturers have different names for their glossy displays including Acer CrystalBrite, ASUS Color Shine, ASUS Crystal Shine, Dell TrueLife®, Fujitsu Crystal View, Fujitsu SuperFine, Gateway UltraBright, HP Compaq BrightView, Sony XBRITE®, Sony X-black, Sony Clear Bright, Toshiba TruBrite® and Toshiba Clear SuperView Technology. If you have a high-gloss display then you are likely looking at a reflection of yourself—unless you work in the dark. We recommend the ViewGuard® Anti-Glare Matte Screen Protector if you use a high-gloss display and dislike glare and reflections.
Will an anti-glare or anti-reflection product allow me to work outside under direct sunlight?
An aftermarket product will not allow you to work outside under direct sunlight due to the light intensity of direct sunlight. Direct sunlight overpowers the light emitted from modern consumer displays, which makes the screen difficult to use and colors washed out. We recommend that you increase the brightness of your display, work in the shade of a patio umbrella or overhang and use a ViewGuard® Anti-Glare Matte Screen Protector.
I find my screen to be too bright; do you have a product that helps reduce screen brightness?
If you would like to manage the light intensity of your display then you have a few options. The unique microlouver technology in a ViewGuard Anti-Glare Privacy Filter causes a tint that reduces light transmission through the product to be reduced by up to 30%. The ViewGuard® Anti-Glare Matte Screen Protector also reduces light transmission by up to 10%, which may reduce some eyestrain caused by screen brightness.
How are ViewGuard® products attached to the display?
Please visit the Installation & Care page here to learn more about steps for attachment.
Can the ViewGuard® Anti-Glare Matte Screen Protector or ViewGuard® Crystal Clear High-Gloss Screen Protector be removed?
Both products attach directly to the viewable surface of the display with a residue-free silicon coating. The screen protector can be removed by picking up a corner and slowly pulling back the film. We recommend you inquire with the manufacturer prior to product installation if you have any special coatings or finishes on your display.
I have a touch-screen device and I am worried about scratches and damage to the screen; what product do you recommend?
We currently have two products that are touch-screen compatible including the ViewGuard® Anti-Glare Matte Screen Protector and the ViewGuard® Crystal Clear High-Gloss Screen Protector. Both work with the all touch-screen technologies we have tested to date.
How thick are the respective ViewGuard® products?
The ViewGuard® Anti-Glare Matte Screen Protector and ViewGuard® Crystal Clear High-Gloss Screen Protector are both optical plastic films that are extremely thin. Their thickness is usually measured in microns. The ViewGuard® Anti-Glare Privacy Filter is less than 1 millimeter thick and is designed to seamlessly fit on your display. The ViewGuard® Anti-Glare TV Filter is roughly 1/8" thick and is durable enough to protect your LCD or Plasma TV from children, Nintendo Wii remotes and the errant flying object.
How does the privacy protection feature work for ViewGuard® Anti-Glare Privacy Filters?
ViewGuard® Anti-Glare Privacy Filters are made of an innovative technology that creates a narrow viewing angle so that only the person directly in-front of the screen is able to view the information displayed.
Can I use any of your products, which are measured for standard landscape use in portrait mode?
Due to the nature of the unique ViewGuard® microlouver technology, only ViewGuard® Anti-Glare Privacy Filters that are marked as “Portrait" can be used in portrait mode. The ViewGuard® Anti-Glare Matte Screen Protector and ViewGuard® Crystal Clear High-Gloss Screen Protector can be used in either portrait or landscape mode.
How can a ViewGuard® Anti-Glare Privacy Filter protect my information?
ViewGuard® Anti-Glare Privacy Filters prevent information thieves and curious individuals from viewing your computer screen while you work in public areas including office buildings, coffee shops, airports, airplanes, train stations and restaurants. Only those directly in front of the computer will be able to view the screen when a ViewGuard® Privacy Filter is attached. Individuals viewing from an angle of 30 degrees or more will only able to see a dark screen that will not allow the information on the screen to be read.
Will a ViewGuard® Anti-Glare Privacy Filter prevent someone standing behind me from reading my screen?
No, the unique technology that provides privacy protection when using a ViewGuard® Anti-Glare Privacy Filter will not prevent someone standing behind you from reading your screen. If we did design the product to do such you would not be able to view your screen either.
Do ViewGuard® Anti-Glare Privacy Filters reduce glare?
Yes, ViewGuard® Anti-Glare Privacy Filters are coated on one-side with an anti-glare technology, which significantly reduces glare caused by sunlight and fluorescent lighting. Glare is a common cause of eyestrain among computer users.
Will my ViewGuard® Anti-Glare Privacy Filter blur or distort images on my screen?
No, ViewGuard® Anti-Glare Privacy Filters do not blur or distort images on your screen. With a ViewGuard® Anti-Glare Privacy Filter attached, your screen view remains clear and sharp without blurring. ViewGuard® Anti-Glare Privacy Filters are tinted so there may be a reduction in the brightness of your display. Please adjust the brightness settings according to your needs.
Can a ViewGuard® Anti-Glare Privacy Filter protect my screen?

What is an aspect ratio?
An aspect ratio is the width-to-height ratio of your display. Displays with the same size diagonal measurements can have different aspect ratios based on the mathematical concepts of a triangle. If you remember calculus and the Pythagorean Theorem (a2+b2=c2) then you may remember that the same length hypotenuse can have multiple corresponding sets of legs. In the display world the aspect ratio is the ratio between those two legs or the viewable width-to-height ratio of the monitor. Also, in the display world the hypotenuse is commonly referred to as the diagonal measurement. In short, the aspect ratio is simply the ratio in size of the viewable width and height of a display. Knowing the aspect ratio and diagonal measurement of a display will allow you to mathematically calculate the exact dimensions of your screen.
How do I know if I have a standard or widescreen display?
The classification of standard or widescreen display is based on the applicable aspect ratio. 4:3 and 5:4 aspect ratios are classified as standard format. 16:10, 16:9 and 10:6 aspect ratios are classified as widescreen format. Please reference the ViewGuard® Display Calculator to determine the aspect ratio of the computer you are using to view this webpage.

One aspect ratio product will properly not fit another aspect ratio display due to the differing dimensions.
